what impact does continuous staring at a computer screen have on eyesight?

I end up staring at my computer for over 8 hours a day for work and other purposes, im worried as to whet this impact will have on my eyes.

I think you can probably use one of those screens or special glasses which reduce the impact, i guess also taking a break by looking away from the screen every 20 minutes might be good.
